Steve Sarkisian Signs Lucrative Four-Year Contract Extension with Texas Longhorns Worth $70 Million
Steve Sarkisian has inked a lucrative four-year contract extension with the Texas Longhorns valued at $70 million. This substantial new agreement, following his successful leadership last season that saw Texas reach the playoff semi-finals, offers Sarkisian various additional benefits.
Despite Texas falling to the Washington Huskies, Sarkisian’s impressive 12-1 record solidified his position as one of college football’s premier coaches. Consequently, he has been granted a remarkable contract totaling $70.4 million, translating to approximately $10 million annually, placing him among the NCAA’s highest-paid coaches.
In addition to his salary, the 49-year-old will receive two cars and various bonuses, including complimentary match tickets. Notably, he gains access to a private jet and a Country Club membership, all courtesy of the university. Texas is reportedly channeling the majority of the funds to Sarkisian’s LLC, thus exempting him from agent fees.
This substantial deal follows shortly after Nick Saban’s retirement as head coach of Alabama, during which Sarkisian was a frontrunner for the position. Consequently, Texas has made significant efforts to retain his services.
Previously earning around $6 million annually, Sarkisian’s new contract reflects a substantial increase spurred by his triumph in the Big 12 Championship, marking Texas’ first title victory since 2009. Kevin Eltife, Chairman of the Texas Board of Regents, expressed immense satisfaction with Sarkisian’s commitment, stating, “Coach Sark is an incredible coach, a first-class person, and a tremendous leader of men. Coach Sark has brought the pride and passion back into our program.”
