Fremantle Football Manager Commends Cox and Walker’s Round One Determination

Cox is poised to commence running drills on the field.

Fremantle’s Executive General Manager of Football, Joe Brierty, has lauded the dedication and professionalism exhibited by Brennan Cox and Brandon Walker as they aim to be available for round one.

Discussing Cox’s progress, Brierty commended his commitment, noting a particularly rigorous three-hour cross-training session in the altitude room, a testament to Cox’s diligence since recovering from a stress reaction. Cox is now transitioning to on-field running, steadily progressing towards round one availability. Despite his injury setback, Cox remains on track for the season opener, showcasing commendable determination in his preparation.

Cox’s contributions to Fremantle’s defense have been significant, exemplified by his standout performance last year against St Kilda, where he equaled the club’s all-time record with 20 marks in a single game. Additionally, Cox’s defensive prowess, as evidenced by his above-average average of 7.2 spoils per game in 2023, has earned recognition from Champion Data.

Brierty also commended Brandon Walker’s meticulous approach to his rehabilitation, acknowledging the efforts of James Grierson and the performance health staff in guiding Walker’s return to peak condition. Walker’s professionalism and physical readiness are evident, setting a positive precedent for his comeback.

As Fremantle prepares for their first hit-out against an opposition club, facing West Coast in a match simulation at Lathlain Oval on February 24th, Brierty emphasizes the importance of game-like scenarios to acclimate players, particularly those with limited game time, to the intensity and pressure of competitive football.
