Jared Waerea-Hargreaves Set to Conclude Stint with Sydney Roosters in 2024: A Legacy of Dominance and Dedication
Jared Waerea-Hargreaves is set to conclude his tenure with the Sydney Roosters by the end of 2024. The seasoned front-rower has solidified his position as one of the premier forwards in the modern era, having amassed nearly 300 NRL games for the Tricolours and securing three NRL premierships with the club in 2013, 2018, and 2019.
Having initially joined the Roosters after a brief stint with Manly early in his career, the 35-year-old has evolved into one of the most cherished figures within the Bondi-based franchise. Expressing his deep connection to the club, Waerea-Hargreaves stated, “The Sydney Roosters have been my home, my family, and my passion for many years. I love the club and everyone associated with it, and the significance of the Roosters jersey holds immense value to me.”
While the announcement from the Roosters leaves uncertainty regarding whether the Kiwi prop will retire from rugby league or pursue opportunities abroad, discussions with Super League club Hull KR have been reported. Despite a suspension carrying over from last year, Waerea-Hargreaves is expected to return to action for the club in round two, following a season opener missed due to the suspension.
Standing tall at 192 centimeters, the Rotorua-born enforcer has commanded respect as one of the most formidable forwards in the sport for over a decade, owing to his physical prowess and aggressive playing style.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson lauded Waerea-Hargreaves’ remarkable tenure with the club, expressing hope for a fourth premiership title in his final season. “He has been instrumental in the club’s success over the past 15 seasons and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest forwards to don the Roosters jersey,” remarked Robinson.
Waerea-Hargreaves is poised to mark his 300th NRL appearance early in the upcoming season, positioning him to become the club’s most-capped player of all time, potentially surpassing the likes of Mitchell Aubusson, Anthony Minichiello, and Luke Ricketson. In addition to his illustrious career with the Roosters, Waerea-Hargreaves has also represented New Zealand on 33 occasions.
