Towards the end of the year, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri were striving for wins. A better car in 2024 could pose a challenge for Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, who has clearly stated his ambitions.

Describing Red Bull as the dominant force in F1 during 2023 would be a massive understatement. Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez claimed victory in nearly every Grand Prix, with the team accumulating 451 more points than their closest competitor.

Mercedes secured second place in the Constructors’ Championship after a tight contest with Ferrari, while McLaren concluded the season strongly to secure fourth. With the significant margin to Red Bull, Mercedes team principal Wolff emphasizes that their primary goal for 2024 is to maintain their position ahead of competition for the runner-up spot.

“Our objective is to solidify our positions relative to Ferrari, McLaren, Aston Martin, and be at the forefront of that pack,” stated Wolff during the unveiling of Mercedes’ W15.

Newly recruited Formula E driver Bird has some discouraging news for Wolff regarding that objective. Based on the insights he’s gathered about the MCL38, which will be piloted by Norris and Piastri, the 37-year-old is convinced that McLaren is poised to create surprises and challenges for their competitors this season.

It seems McLaren Formula E star Sam Bird is stirring up some anticipation for the upcoming F1 season, suggesting that McLaren has addressed previous issues and could be a formidable force.

With drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri showing promise, Bird’s insights hint at potential upsets for Mercedes boss Toto Wolff. Considering Wolff’s acknowledgment of the challenges ahead, Bird’s remarks add to the intrigue surrounding McLaren’s prospects.
