Breaking News: A forward for the Miami Heat is facing a lawsuit from a victim.
Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith is reportedly facing a lawsuit from the individual who lost a leg in a car accident that took place in early February.
Following the All-Star Weekend break, Miami Heat forward Haywood Highsmith finds himself in a challenging situation off the court. Reports indicate that Highsmith is being sued by a 21-year-old man who lost his leg in a car accident that occurred on Feb. 6, shortly after the Heat’s victory over the Orlando Magic at the Kaseya Center.
According to TMZ, Alekxei Pino filed the lawsuit on Friday in Florida. Pino alleges that he was assisting a stranded motorist in Miami when Highsmith collided with him in his 2021 Audi A5 at a high speed. Pino claims in the suit that Highsmith was exceeding the legal speed limit on the roadway before the collision, resulting in an above-the-knee amputation.
Highsmith has played a crucial role in the Heat’s achievements over the last two seasons. Initially signed on a two-way contract, Highsmith steadily earned a spot in the rotation last season. Notably, he has started in 24 games during the current season.
Highsmith played a significant role on the team that reached the NBA Finals against the Denver Nuggets last year. He maintains an average of 5.9 points and 2.8 rebounds while shooting 42.1 percent from the field.
According to TMZ, Pino also alleges that he sustained other substantial injuries in the collision and has undergone multiple medical procedures to treat the injuries. Pino’s attorney, Manuel Dobrinsky, stated in a recent announcement that his client is currently still hospitalized, undergoing recovery with a lengthy rehabilitation process ahead. Pino and his legal representative are seeking unspecified damages, though they estimate the amount to exceed $50,000.
