The Boston Bruins will be without one of their key defensemen when they go up against the Edmonton Oilers.

Today, the Boston Bruins disclosed that defenseman Hampus Lindholm will be sidelined on a week-to-week basis due to an undisclosed injury, thankfully not necessitating surgery.

Lindholm exited Monday’s match against the Dallas Stars after logging 18 minutes and 32 seconds of ice time. He won’t be joining the Bruins on their upcoming road trip across Western Canada, where they are scheduled to play against the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and Vancouver Canucks.

The 30-year-old defenseman has contributed one goal and 18 assists, totaling 19 points, along with 52 penalty minutes in 56 games for the Bruins this season.

Lindholm was acquired by Boston in a significant trade deadline move in 2022, coming from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a first-round pick, two second-round picks, Urho Vaakanainen, and John Moore. Shortly after joining the Bruins, Lindholm signed an eight-year contract extension with an annual cap hit of $6.5 million. He had an impressive 53-point performance in 80 games during the 2022-23 season.

With Lindholm sidelined, defenseman Mason Lohrei steps into the second pairing. Lohrei has played in 27 games this season for the Bruins, tallying three goals and six points.

He has also been productive with the Providence Bruins in the AHL, recording 13 points in 17 games. During his last NHL call-up, Lohrei required 20 stitches for a skate cut on his left quad, sustained on Feb 3.

Currently, the Bruins hold the second position in the Atlantic Division with a record of 33-12-11, accumulating 77 points in 56 games. They are just one point behind the Florida Panthers and hold a nine-point lead over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Boston Bruins defenseman Hampus Lindholm out week-to-week are expected later this week.
