The reasons behind Tide replacing the long-serving announcer…
Alabama announced on Wednesday that Chris Stewart will take over as the football radio announcer, replacing the longtime announcer Eli Gold.
Gold, aged 70, has been the voice of Alabama football for 35 years, covering seven national championship games, 11 Southeastern Conference championships, and 35 bowl games.
Jim Carabin, the vice president and general manager of the Crimson Tide Sports Network, expressed gratitude for Gold’s years of service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Carabin also highlighted Stewart’s readiness to step into the role, emphasizing his seamless transition as part of the existing broadcast team.
Stewart has been associated with the network in various capacities since 1998. He temporarily substituted for Gold during the 2022 season when the veteran broadcaster was diagnosed with cancer. Gold returned to fulfill partial duties last season, handling home games and the Auburn game.
Gold informed AL.com that he has no intentions of retiring.
“Well, the university has opted not to retain my services,” Gold stated. “This decision is not, and I emphasize not, related to health matters. I’m in excellent health. Everything is fantastic. I’m as healthy as can be.”
