The Orlando Magic secured a narrow 116-109 victory on Thursday night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, leaving coach J.B. Bickerstaff visibly frustrated post-game.
Bickerstaff acknowledged the Magic’s strategy of deliberately fouling the Cavs, attributing many of their turnovers to this tactic.
“I believe [Orlando] effectively disrupted our play by fouling,” remarked Bickerstaff. “Their physicality, slapping, reaching, grabbing, and holding contributed to the turnovers.”

Specifically, Bickerstaff offered a somewhat backhanded compliment to Moe Wagner, who top-scored with 22 points from the bench.
“He’s a player who makes an impact and contributes to victories,” stated Bickerstaff. “However, there were numerous offensive fouls called against [Wagner] when he had possession. It’s challenging for our players to defend when he’s allowed such leeway.”

Bickerstaff’s public criticism of officials isn’t unprecedented. In 2022, he incurred fines twice, the first being $20,000 in March and the second $15,000 in April. It wouldn’t be surprising if the league once again penalizes him for his latest remarks.
