The CEO of the Wests Tigers stated that he had intended to leave
Having recently broken his silence regarding his departure from the Wests Tigers, former CEO Justin Pascoe has revealed that he had already planned to leave the club before he was dismissed. Pascoe was stood down by the club at the end of last year following a period of poor performance, with the team failing to qualify for the finals for over a decade and receiving consecutive wooden spoons.
He was part of several changes at the club involving key figures like Benji Marshall, Scott Fulton, and Tim Sheens, and was eventually replaced along with Lee Hagipantelis in a significant overhaul. Months after leaving the club, Pascoe disclosed on The Bye Round podcast hosted by James Graham that he had actually drafted a resignation letter in June or July of the same year, indicating his desire to leave the Wests Tigers before being forced to resign.
“I found it increasingly challenging to operate without the authority to make decisions quickly and effectively. I had drafted a resignation letter expressing this frustration and shared it with some board members. They advised me to hold off and continue. However, there were limitations in the authority and delegation structure that hindered the CEO’s ability to have full control. It became frustrating when people didn’t stick to their roles, and this frustration was affecting my ability to perform. I simply wanted the opportunity to do the job to the best of my ability.”
