Toronto Argonauts Linebacker Retires from CFL
Henoc Muamba Retires: A Look Back at His Impactful Career in the CFL
The Toronto Argonauts are grappling with the reality that all good things must eventually come to an end, as veteran linebacker Henoc Muamba has announced his retirement from football after an illustrious 11-season career in the CFL, according to a social media post by the league on Monday.
Muamba, who was the top overall pick in the 2011 CFL Draft by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, spent his initial three seasons with the team before earning accolades as a CFL All-Star and CFL East All-Star in the 2013 season.
Reflecting on his career, Muamba expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play football professionally and credited his abilities as a gift from God. Following his stint with the Blue Bombers, Muamba ventured into the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts in 2014 and 2015, later returning to the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes in 2015, albeit briefly before joining the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL.
Returning to the CFL permanently in 2016, Muamba found success with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, earning recognition as the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian in 2017 for his impressive performance.
Subsequently reuniting with the Montreal Alouettes for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, Muamba continued to showcase his prowess, earning selections to the CFL East All-Star team in 2018 and the CFL All-Star team in 2019.

In his final three seasons, Muamba donned the jersey of the Toronto Argonauts, culminating in a triumphant victory at the 2022 Grey Cup, where his standout play, including a crucial interception returned for a touchdown, earned him the game’s MVP and Most Valuable Canadian honors.
Although initially retiring after the 2022 season, Muamba made a brief comeback before being sidelined by injury for the entirety of the 2023 season with the Argos.
With an impressive career stat line boasting 688 total tackles, 35 tackles for loss, 17 sacks, 18 pass deflections, 14 forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and seven interceptions across 135 games, Muamba leaves a significant mark on Canadian football.
As Muamba transitions into retirement, his future plans remain undisclosed, but his impact on the sport over the past decade certainly merits consideration for induction into the Hall of Fame.
