Stacy Wakefield, the spouse of the late former Boston Red Sox pitcher and two-time World Series champion Tim Wakefield, has passed away. According to her family’s statement issued through the Red Sox, she died at her home in Massachusetts on Wednesday, less than five months after her husband’s death at the age of 57. Online records indicate Stacy was 53 years old.

The statement conveyed that she was surrounded by her family, close friends, as well as her dedicated caretakers and nurses. The family expressed profound grief, particularly given the loss of Tim just under five months ago, describing their hearts as shattered by the news.

The family mentioned that Stacy received a diagnosis but did not disclose the exact cause of her death. In September, Tim’s former Red Sox teammate Curt Schilling revealed on a podcast that both Tim and Stacy had been diagnosed with cancer, with Tim having brain cancer and Stacy having pancreatic cancer.

Schilling’s disclosure sparked both an outpouring of support for the Wakefields and criticism for revealing the matter without their consent.

The family’s statement continued, describing Stacy as a resilient, loving, thoughtful, and genuine individual who possessed a grounded demeanor. They expressed gratitude for having had her in their lives and found solace in the belief that she would be reunited with Tim, her beloved husband.

Stacy and Tim are survived by their children, Trevor and Brianna.

While Tim was celebrated for his accomplishments on the baseball field, both he and Stacy were also esteemed in Boston for their philanthropic efforts within the community.

Stacy collaborated with her husband in fundraising efforts for various charitable organizations, including the Red Sox Foundation. Together, they actively supported the Jimmy Fund, dedicating time to visit patients and raise funds for the childhood cancer charity.
