Shane Richardson situation with The wests tigers.

The Wests Tigers are in talks with Shane Richardson about the possibility of him becoming the club’s long-term chief executive, despite him initially being brought in on a six-month deal. Richardson was appointed after the entire board was dissolved and former CEO Justin Pascoe resigned. His performance has impressed chairman Barry O’Farrell, leading to discussions about a permanent deal.

While the composition of the Tigers’ board for independent directors remains uncertain, O’Farrell has moved quickly to secure Richardson’s services beyond his initial contract. O’Farrell praised Richardson’s experience, describing him as a “font of wisdom” with a track record of success at the Panthers and Rabbitohs.

Richardson has already made significant moves, such as securing Jarome Luai’s $6 million defection from Penrith on a five-year deal from 2025. He has also given rookie coach Benji Marshall significant authority in player signings.

Richardson has disclosed pre-existing conflicts of interest to the Tigers board, including his involvement with Rich Digital, a consultancy firm that represents players like Solomona Faataape, whom the Tigers recently signed.

The Tigers are set to unveil a strategic plan for junior development in south-west Sydney and the Macarthur region under Richardson’s leadership. Despite challenges, including low membership numbers and poor trial performances, Richardson is keen to continue leading the Tigers’ transformation.
