The Detroit Red Wings face another setback with the loss of a key player as they strategize their approach to the Trade Deadline.

With only three days remaining before the NHL Trade Deadline, there is growing concern among fans about the potential moves their teams might make to bolster their rosters for the playoffs.

The Detroit Red Wings, a team on the verge of ending a significant postseason drought, received disappointing news on Monday. It was revealed that their captain, Dylan Larkin, is projected to be sidelined for the next two weeks due to a lower-body injury.

Don’t expect Dylan Larkin’s injury to change Detroit Red Wings’ Trade Deadline plans

Larkin, a former Michigan Wolverine, has been a standout performer for the Red Wings this season, leading the team with 54 points in 55 games, despite missing six games earlier in the season.

Some are speculating whether general manager Steve Yzerman will take action to address the void left by Larkin’s absence before Friday. However, there’s a possibility that Yzerman may stick to his pre-established plan.

Currently, the Detroit Red Wings (33-22-6) are tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning for fourth place in the Atlantic Division, with both teams occupying the two Wild Card spots in the Eastern Conference.

During the Ask DFO segment on Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli discussed why Yzerman is unlikely to make hasty decisions due to an injury to one of his key players.

Frank Seravalli: Larkin is expected to be out for approximately two weeks, possibly slightly less. Despite this setback, the Red Wings have performed well enough to solidify themselves as a legitimate playoff contender.

They could prove to be an intriguing matchup in the first round of the playoffs. While it’s true that many consider other teams in the East as more likely candidates for a deep playoff run, I wouldn’t underestimate the potential for the Red Wings to make a surprising postseason push.
