Montreal Alouettes Sign American Defensive Back Macon Clark; Release Linebacker C.J. Avery
The Montreal Alouettes have added American defensive back Macon Clark to their roster.
Clark, standing at six feet tall and weighing 185 pounds, previously joined the Chicago Bears following the 2023 NFL Draft but was waived at the conclusion of training camp. After a brief stint on the practice squad, he was released in October.
A 24-year-old hailing from Saint Rose, Louisiana, Clark boasts an impressive collegiate career at Tulane University, where he accumulated 202 total tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, nine interceptions, eight pass knockdowns, four forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries across 51 games. His standout performances earned him recognition as a first-team All-AAC selection during his senior year.
In addition to Clark’s signing, the Alouettes parted ways with American linebacker C.J. Avery, who had joined the team in January 2024.
Avery, a six-foot, 230-pound native of Grenada, Mississippi, showcased his skills during his time at the University of Louisville, tallying 249 total tackles, 8.5 sacks, three interceptions, and 19 pass knockdowns over 59 games. Although he initially signed with the Chicago Bears in 2022, he was waived due to injury designation.
Looking ahead, the Alouettes are set to kick off their 2024 season on June 6 with a visit to Princess Auto Stadium to take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a rematch of the Grey Cup.
