Sydney Roosters Provide Injury Updates for Tupouniua and Wong After Round 1 Victory

The Sydney Roosters have announced that Sitili Tupouniua underwent scans on his left groin, while Siua Wong has been given the all-clear from any significant injury.

Both players were forced to leave the field during the Roosters’ Round 1 victory over the Brisbane Broncos in Las Vegas last Sunday (Australian time).

Tupouniua reported discomfort in his left groin and was substituted early in the second half as a precautionary measure.

Sitili Tupouniua of the Roosters

Although the club does not suspect a serious injury, Tupouniua, who returned to competitive rugby league against the Broncos after missing most of the 2023 season due to an ACL injury, will undergo further scans and evaluation for reassurance.

Having primarily played as an edge forward, Tupouniua briefly featured at lock during the pre-season due to the Roosters’ surplus of second-rowers, potentially indicating a positional shift as the season progresses.

As of now, there is no indication whether Tupouniua will be fit for the upcoming weekend’s fixture.

In contrast, Wong exited the field with a late second-half injury but has since been given the green light by the Roosters’ medical staff.

Siua Wong of Roosters

The promising youngster, who showcased his talent in last year’s elimination final against the Cronulla Sharks, is set to be available for the Roosters’ Round 2 encounter against the Manly Sea Eagles.

Starting in the second row during Round 1, Wong is expected to maintain his position for a significant portion of the season, given the high regard he holds within the Roosters’ camp.

The Roosters reported no additional injury concerns following Round 1 as they prepare for their extended break to return from Las Vegas ahead of Round 2.
