Sydney Roosters are managing the absence of two essential players due to…
The Sydney Roosters have confirmed Sitili Tupouniua underwent scans for his left groin, while Siua Wong received clearance from serious injury.
Both players exited during the Roosters’ Round 1 victory (last Sunday in Australian time) against the Brisbane Broncos in Las Vegas.
Tupouniua reportedly felt discomfort in his left groin and left the game early in the second half.
Although the club does not suspect a serious injury, Tupouniua, who missed most of the 2023 season due to an ACL injury, will undergo scans and evaluation as a precautionary measure, according to the club.
The forward, primarily deployed as an edge forward, briefly played in the lock position during preseason due to the Roosters’ surplus of second-rowers. He may continue to rotate positions throughout the season.
At this juncture, there is no clarity regarding Tupouniua’s fitness for the upcoming weekend.
Contrarily, Wong exited the field with an injury late in the second half.
The Roosters have reassured his absence is not due to any serious injury, and they have affirmed that the promising young player, who showcased his talent in a crucial match against the Cronulla Sharks last season, will be ready for the Roosters’ Round 2 encounter against the Manly Sea Eagles.
Starting in the second-row for Round 1 and having garnered praise within the Roosters’ camp, Wong is expected to maintain this role for much of the season.
Following Round 1, the Roosters have not reported any other injury concerns as they prepare for an extended break to return from Las Vegas ahead of Round 2.
