Former University of Washington Center Nick Harris Signs One-Year Deal with Seattle Seahawks, Reflecting Scott Huff’s Influence on the Offensive Line

The Seattle Seahawks made a move influenced by Scott Huff, their new offensive line coach, by signing Nick Harris, his former center at the University of Washington, to a one-year contract. This deal could be worth up to $3.26 million, as reported by various news sources.

Huff and Harris worked together for three seasons at the University of Washington from 2017 to 2019. During this time, Huff helped develop Harris’s skills as a center, where he performed exceptionally well and earned two first-team All-Pac-12 honors.

Selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft, Harris spent three seasons with the Cleveland Browns but struggled to establish himself due to injuries. Despite being on the verge of becoming the Browns’ starting center in 2022, he suffered a season-ending injury during preseason games. Throughout his time in Cleveland, Harris appeared in 40 games, starting only four.

Harris joined the University of Washington after playing at JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, California. As a freshman, he made an immediate impact, starting games at both guard positions for the Huskies. Over his collegiate career, Harris started 42 out of 50 games, showcasing his versatility by playing multiple positions.

One of Harris’s strengths at center is his natural power and ability to leverage against opposing linemen. Known for his cheerful personality, he once wore a T-shirt under his University of Washington jersey during a game against Washington State in 2019, boldly stating, “We don’t lose to Cougs.”

Now, Harris returns to his college town to play under his former coach, Scott Huff, and contribute to an offense led by Ryan Grubb, the Seahawks’ new offensive coordinator, whom he has yet to meet. However, with Huff’s guidance, Harris is sure to integrate quickly into the team.
