A 20-year-old prop from the Rabbitohs has been suspended by the NRL for alleged misconduct.
South Sydney Rabbitohs prop Davvy Moale has been cited by the NRL’s match review committee for a dangerous contact incident during Thursday night’s Round 2 match against the Brisbane Broncos.
The incident occurred in the 33rd minute of the game while the Broncos were leading 12-0.
The Rabbitohs were already down to 12 men as Damien Cook was in the sin bin for a previous professional foul. Moale tackled Patrick Carrigan with a cannonball tackle to the knees, which was not penalized during the live play but was later reviewed by the bunker and Moale was placed on report.
Despite the severity of the tackle, Davvy Moale has been charged with a Grade 1 dangerous contact offence, which carries only a fine as punishment.
As this is his second such offence in the past 12 months, he faces a fine of $1800 with an early guilty plea or $2500 if he contests the charge at the judiciary.
South Sydney Rabbitohs, already without injured forward Jai Arrow, were keen to avoid any further suspensions or injuries following their Round 2 loss ahead of their upcoming match against the Sydney Roosters.
Moale has until midday (AEDT) on Saturday to decide whether to accept the charge or contest it, with no other players from either team reported or charged during the game.
