Sam Walsh Optimistic for Return as Carlton Dismisses Surgery Rumors

Carlton’s sidelined star player, Sam Walsh, is optimistic about returning to the team in the next few weeks, despite rumors suggesting he might need surgery for his back injury.

Walsh has been ruled out of playing until after Carlton’s Round 2 bye, missing recent games against Brisbane and Richmond due to his injury. He had a back problem at the end of the 2022 season, which also affected the start of the next season. However, this time, the recovery process seems quicker.

Reports of Walsh undergoing surgery soon were denied by Carlton’s senior coach, Michael Voss. He emphasized that the club is taking the right steps, and Walsh could be back on the field soon.

Although Walsh didn’t specify an exact return date, he mentioned his progress and hopes to return within a couple of weeks. He had a rehab training session with the team and feels positive about his recovery.

Carlton has a break after their first two games, which gives injured players like Jacob Weitering and Caleb Marchbank a chance to recover. Weitering has been dealing with a calf strain, and Marchbank has been ill. Jack Martin is also sidelined with a knee injury, and Jesse Motlop is managing a toe problem.

Carlton’s next game is against North Melbourne on Friday, March 29, where they aim to continue their winning streak.
