Cincinnati Reds reliever Alex Young has experienced a setback
Cincinnati Reds left-handed pitcher Alex Young, coming off a breakout 2023 season, will start the 2024 season on the injured list due to lingering back tightness. After a setback during his Cactus League debut, where he struggled against the Chicago White Sox, Young is expected to miss several weeks.
Young began his career as a starting pitcher with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019 but was moved to the bullpen and eventually waived in 2021. He found success with the San Francisco Giants in 2022 and signed with the Reds in 2023, posting a 3.86 ERA in 63 games. However, his performance wavered towards the end of the season, coinciding with the Reds’ fall from playoff contention
To address Young’s absence, the Reds are reportedly considering adding left-handed pitcher Justin Wilson, who recently opted out of his minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Wilson would provide the Reds with another left-handed bullpen option.
