Greg Scruggs, who has yet to coach a practice for Michigan football, finds himself in serious trouble. According to a report by The Detroit News’ Angelique Chengelis, Scruggs was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Ann Arbor just before 3 a.m. on Saturday morning. This incident puts his job in jeopardy, barely a month into it.
The Michigan football program responded with a statement from head coach Sherrone Moore, indicating that they are taking immediate action. Scruggs has been suspended indefinitely while the incident is investigated.
“Greg made a regrettable mistake and was arrested for driving while intoxicated,” Moore stated. “He is not making excuses and has taken responsibility for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we examine the details of the incident.”
With spring practice set to begin on Monday, March 18, it remains unclear who will oversee the defensive line during the early practice sessions.
Scruggs joined Michigan from Wisconsin, where he served as the defensive line coach under Luke Fickell. Prior to his time in Wisconsin, he worked as an assistant in the NFL for two years but previously collaborated with Fickell at Cincinnati. He shares a connection with Moore, having played for him at Louisville, where Moore began his coaching career.
