Philadelphia Phillies Bolster Outfield Depth with Addition of Veteran Utility Man Jordan Luplow
The Philadelphia Phillies are strengthening their team as they finish the last two weeks of spring training. They recently made a deal with veteran player Jordan Luplow, who was released by the Atlanta Braves. Luplow, 30 years old, had a good performance in spring training with the Braves, hitting .276 with three home runs and seven RBI in 29 at-bats before being released. He has played in the Major Leagues for seven seasons, hitting .212 with 47 home runs and 125 RBI in 361 games.

Although Luplow hasn’t always had a high batting average, he had a solid season in 2019 with a .276 average, along with 15 home runs and 38 RBI. He has played for six different teams in seven years, making him an experienced player in the league. Luplow is known for his versatility, playing in various positions on the field, including the outfield and some infield positions. Now, he joins the Phillies’ crowded outfield mix for the remainder of spring training.
The Phillies have been looking to strengthen their outfield, especially with concerns about Johan Rojas’ batting performance. Rojas has struggled in spring training, hitting only .152 with no home runs and four RBI. With Jake Cave and Cristian Pache also in the mix for outfield spots, the Phillies have added depth with the signings of Luplow, David Dahl, and Cal Stevenson. The team aims to improve their outfield defense after it was identified as a weakness last season. Luplow’s signing adds depth to the Phillies’ minor league system and provides them with more options for the upcoming season.
