The Baltimore Orioles have acquired a versatile 27-year-old outfielder from a rival team.
The Baltimore Orioles are reintroducing a familiar face to their organization just two weeks before Opening Day. They have acquired outfielder Peyton Burdick off waivers from the Chicago White Sox, as confirmed by the team.
Burdick was originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the third round of the 2019 MLB draft and made his MLB debut with the team in the 2022 MLB season.
Last month, the Orioles purchased Burdick from the Marlins before he was designated for assignment following Baltimore’s acquisition of relief pitcher Kaleb Ort from the Philadelphia Phillies for cash considerations.
After being signed by the White Sox, Burdick’s stint in MLB Spring Training camp with Chicago was short-lived as he was also designated for assignment following the Dylan Cease trade.
In 46 games at the MLB level split across the 2022-23 seasons, Burdick posted a .200/.281/.333 slash line with five home runs.
Despite the Orioles’ considerable depth in the outfield across their system, Burdick will be vying for a bench spot. With some Major League experience under his belt and room for further development, this acquisition could prove to be a very low-risk, high-reward move for the Orioles, an area where the front office has shown proficiency.
