Triston Reilly, released from the Wests Tigers at the end of last year, has disclosed that he has not ruled out the possibility of returning to the NRL in the future.
Currently competing in the Super Rugby competition and the Shute Shield with the Waratahs and Randwick Rugby, Reilly spent two seasons with the Wests Tigers, playing three NRL games.
Primarily a centre or winger, the former Tiger also played in junior ranks for the Newcastle Knights and South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Signed with the NSW Waratahs on a one-year contract only, Reilly expressed uncertainty about his future sport, suggesting a potential return to the NRL.
“I am interested in giving it [the NRL] another crack because just with the way I left, I thought I could have played more games,” he told The Sydney Morning Herald.
If an NRL club decides to sign him for the next season, he would be the second player to be picked up from the 2024 NSW Waratahs squad. His teammate and Wallabies winger Mark Nawaqanitawase is set to switch codes next season after signing a two-year contract with the Sydney Roosters.
This move makes him the first Wallaby to switch from rugby union to rugby league in two decades.
“I told Mark that he will excel in league,” Reilly remarked. “He will develop during the pre-season and will quickly learn what he needs to do to prepare for the game. But he is in good hands with the Roosters.”
