Collingwood’s new recruit, Lachie Schultz, has been cited for attempting to trip Swans player Justin McInerney during Friday night’s game at the MCG. The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of the Round 1 match and resulted in Schultz being the only player charged by the AFL’s Match Review Officer that evening.
The charge for attempting to trip carries a fixed financial penalty, with Schultz receiving a $1875 fine for his actions. He has the option to accept the charge with an early plea, which would reduce the sanction to $1250, or he can contest the charge in an attempt to have it dismissed.
No other players were charged from Friday’s game, and there were no charges issued from the opening game of Round 1 between Carlton and Richmond.
With Schultz not facing suspension, the Magpies’ small forward will be eligible for selection next week when Collingwood faces St Kilda on Thursday night.
Schultz made his club debut for Collingwood against GWS in the Opening Round but missed three chances in front of goal. He was more successful against Sydney, converting two attempts to score his first major for his new team.
The 26-year-old played 90 games for Fremantle before seeking a trade to Collingwood at the end of last year, scoring 101 goals for the Dockers.
