NL West Attracts Top Talent: Torey Lovullo’s Take on Padres’ Acquisition of Dylan Cease and Offseason Trends
Following the acquisition of Dylan Cease, the 2022 Cy Young runner-up, from the Chicago White Sox via trade, Torey Lovullo expressed his thoughts on the recent trend of top-tier talents flocking to the NL West.
Cease concluded the 2022 season with a remarkable 2.20 ERA and delivered 9 shutouts.
Joining an expanding roster of luminaries making their mark in the league’s most challenging division this offseason are Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Matt Chapman, Jorge Soler, and now, Dylan Cease.
In jest, the Diamondbacks’ manager remarked, “I wish the NL West would stop attracting the best players.”
On a positive note, the Diamondbacks experienced a fruitful offseason themselves, securing Eduardo Rodriguez, Eugenio Suarez, and Joc Pederson.
Additionally, with MLB introducing a blended schedule featuring fewer divisional matchups, the Diamondbacks will face each of their rivals only 13 times, as opposed to the previous 20 or more.
