Injury Update: Collingwood has suffered further losses with more key players sidelined.

Collingwood’s Head of High-Performance, Jarrod Wade, has given an injury update ahead of the club’s Round Two match against St Kilda on Thursday night.

Young ruck Oscar Steene suffered a facial knock during last Friday’s VFL practice match against Port Melbourne, resulting in a concussion and a minor cheekbone fracture. The 20-year-old is now in the AFL’s 12-step concussion protocols, ensuring he’s symptom-free before returning to play.

Midfielder Tom Mitchell is set to return for Thursday’s game after recovering from an ankle injury that kept him out of last Friday’s Round One match against the Swans. Mitchell has been training well and has regained his top speed.

Nathan Kreuger continues his rehabilitation from a hamstring injury sustained during the pre-season. He has returned to 92 percent running speed and has started non-competitive training drills. Kreuger is on track to return around Round Five.

Harry DeMattia’s recovery from a finger injury is progressing well, with the 18-year-old continuing his running program and focusing on long-term athletic development. He will meet with the surgeon next week for a review meeting.

Josh Eyre is four weeks into his recovery from hamstring surgery, with a typical 12-week recovery period. He is currently doing high-volume, slow running and is working to improve intensity and speed before returning to ball work, which is still several weeks away.

Nathan Murphy has started contact work in a one-on-one setting and has returned to team training while avoiding high-impact contact. He is progressing through his return program, but there is no set timeline for his return to play.

 

Key forward Dan McStay continues his ACL rehabilitation and achieved a personal best for speed last week. He will increase the number of running sessions from two to three per week after the Easter Break.
