Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

A revamped version of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT sports car will hit dealerships this spring, although the lineup is not yet fully fleshed out.

Recently, Mercedes introduced the AMG GT 43 base model. This model is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo-4 engine, delivering 416 hp, a powertrain it shares with the related AMG SL 43 convertible that debuted in 2023 (as well as the AMG C 43 sedan). While the GT 43 is slated for the 2025 model year, specific details regarding its release in the U.S. market have not been disclosed.

In addition to the GT 43, which now offers 2+2 seating, the lineup includes the GT 55 and GT 63 variants, both powered by AMG’s renowned twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine. The GT 55 produces 469 hp, while the GT 63 boasts an impressive 577 hp. Both grades feature a 9-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive.

Another anticipated addition is a high-end plug-in hybrid model, likely named the GT 63 S E Performance, expected to debut later this year with over 800 hp.

Despite the reduction in cylinder count, the GT 43 boasts impressive performance figures. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach a governed top speed of 174 mph. This performance is aided by an electrified turbocharger design similar to those utilized in Formula 1.

The GT 43 differs from other GT variants in several ways. It forgoes the all-wheel-drive system present in other models, transmitting power solely to the rear wheels. This, combined with the smaller engine, is expected to result in significant weight savings compared to its counterparts, although exact figures have not been disclosed. Additionally, the GT 43 does not come standard with the AMG Ride Control suspension with adjustable damping or the Race mode of the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive mode selector, although these features are available as options.

Visually, the GT 43 is distinguished from the GT 55 and GT 63 by unique front and rear fascias and round tailpipes instead of the square-shaped tips found on V-8 models. Different wheel patterns are also offered for the GT 43, with the standard set measuring 19 inches in diameter.

While pricing details have not yet been released, a significant discount from the $136,050 starting price of the GT 55 is expected. For reference, the SL 43 is priced from $111,050, compared to $142,450 for the SL 55, with all prices including a $1,150 destination charge.
