Mike Norvell has been actively reuniting former Seminoles in Tallahassee, and he may soon welcome another addition to his coaching staff.
During the opening of spring camp on Tuesday, Florida State’s coaches and players were greeted by a familiar face as former star linebacker Ernie Sims joined them on the practice field alongside defensive tackles coach Odell Haggins. Sims closely observed the defense, leading to speculation that he might take on a coaching role with the Seminoles.
When asked about Sims’s potential addition, head coach Mike Norvell couldn’t confirm it but hinted at the possibility of an announcement in the near future.
“While speaking after practice, Norvell mentioned, ‘Not officially. But we’re glad to have him here, unofficially – no – he is officially here,’ with a smile.”
Ernie Sims recently served as the linebackers coach at UCF under Gus Malzahn. Since starting his coaching career in 2018, he has worked at various colleges in Florida, including Florida Atlantic and USF. Sims, a highly regarded recruit out of North Florida Christian High School, was a standout player for Florida State, earning multiple accolades during his collegiate career.
After a successful stint in college football, Sims was drafted into the NFL and enjoyed a notable professional career spanning eight seasons with several teams.
