Breaking News: Michigan has hired a new Director of On-Campus Recruiting.
Sherrone Moore made another recruiting staff acquisition this week, this time persuading Kayli Johnson to leave Michigan State and join Michigan as the new Director of On-Campus Recruiting.
Johnson, who is the older sister of Michigan cornerback Will Johnson, had recently joined Michigan State as the football program’s Director of Recruiting Communications. She previously worked as Rutgers’ Assistant Director of Recruiting Operations during the 2023 season.
Before her time at Rutgers, Johnson interned with the Detroit Lions in operations. She also excelled as a track and field athlete at both Texas Tech, where she pursued her graduate studies, and Michigan State as an undergraduate.
Johnson’s arrival at Michigan sees her taking over from Christina DeRuyter in the on-campus recruiting role. This move allows DeRuyter to transition into a football operations position, which was reportedly her desired career move.
Johnson’s arrival is expected to be beneficial beyond her on-campus recruiting responsibilities. She brings extensive connections in key recruiting regions such as the in-state area, DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia), Chicago, and Los Angeles, thanks to her involvement with the Sound Mind Sound Program.
She also has ties to the National Playmakers Academy in Nashville, Unsigned Preps in Tampa, and various other seven-on-seven and training programs. These connections are likely to aid Michigan in attracting more top recruits to campus, marking another strategic move in Sherrone Moore’s revamp of the recruiting and personnel departments.
Johnson is set to start her new role in Ann Arbor on Monday. For further updates on this and other recruiting staff developments, stay tuned to The Michigan Insider.
