Breaking News: A 27-year-old star player for the Bombers is facing a charge…
Essendon’s tall forward, Peter Wright, will appear before the AFL tribunal regarding the incident that resulted in Sydney defender Harry Cunningham being concussed.
Wright stands as the sole player facing potential suspension following the intense match at the SCG on Saturday night.
While Swans coach John Longmire expressed his disappointment over losing Cunningham to concussion, Sydney veteran Tom Papley openly criticized the Bombers in both halftime and post-match interviews, accusing them of unsportsmanlike conduct, particularly behind the play.
Papley suggested that Wright’s actions would earn him a “nice holiday” for his involvement in the Cunningham incident.
Wright is facing a charge of rough conduct, with the bump being assessed as careless conduct, causing severe impact, and involving high contact.
Earlier in the week, Bombers coach Brad Scott had emphasized the team’s desire for an “Essendon edge,” but despite their efforts, Sydney secured a 30-point victory.
In addition to Wright’s charge, Bombers ruckman Sam Draper was cited for a late hit on Jake Lloyd but received only a rough conduct fine.
Wright is the sole player facing suspension from the fiery SCG clash, while four others are set to receive fines for their involvement in a first-quarter melee.
Meanwhile, St Kilda’s key forward, Max King, has been offered a one-game suspension for his high contact on Collingwood’s Finn Macrae during Thursday night’s match, which St Kilda won convincingly.
