Controversial: head coach of the Steelers addresses the quarterback situation…
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback lineup undergoes a significant transformation in 2024. Departing are Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, and Mason Rudolph, while newcomers Russell Wilson and Justin Fields join the team.
During the NFL league meetings in Orlando, Mike Tomlin addressed the quarterback situation and immediately designated Russell Wilson as the starting quarterback.
“We’ve been transparent about the initial pecking order,” Tomlin stated. “Russell is a seasoned veteran with a proven readiness process. He brings extensive experience and leadership qualities, which will benefit our team. Justin can learn a lot from him as he transitions into the league.”
Tomlin emphasized that while Wilson holds the starting position for now, Justin Fields will have the opportunity to compete. However, Wilson’s track record justifies his initial role, and Fields is eager to glean knowledge from the veteran quarterback.
While Wilson has the lead position, Fields could potentially become the Week 1 starter, although Wilson’s performance in spring and training camp will determine the outcome.
