Tiger-Cats Bolster Running Back Depth with Signing of Greg Bell

Since the commencement of the 2024 free agency period, the Tiger-Cats have been prioritizing the infusion of youth and depth into their roster. This initiative has encompassed various aspects, including bolstering the offensive line, augmenting the receiving corps with new additions, and securing the return of CFL All-Star wide receiver Tim White. Today, the CFL Transactions list reveals another step in this direction, with the Tiger-Cats further enhancing their running back position by signing American running back Greg Bell.

During the 2023 CFL season, running back James Butler showcased his prowess with the Tiger-Cats, amassing over 1000 rushing yards. Head Coach Scott Milanovich has been dedicated to facilitating Butler’s continued success in the 2024 season by fortifying the offensive line and providing additional offensive weapons. Should Bell secure a roster spot during training camp, he could alleviate the workload for Butler and offer the Tiger-Cats insurance in the event of injuries that are common throughout the demanding CFL regular season.

Greg Bell, a 6’0″, 200-pound running back hailing from Chula Vista, California, brings a wealth of experience to Hamilton. Prior to joining the Tiger-Cats, Bell had stints with multiple NFL teams. In 2022, he featured for the Detroit Lions, followed by a tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2023.

Before embarking on his professional football journey, Bell commenced his college football career at Arizona Western Junior College in 2016. Over two seasons at Arizona Western, Bell showcased his versatility, tallying impressive statistics. His tenure saw him amass 2,404 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on 382 carries, while also contributing as a passer and receiver.

In 2018, Bell transitioned to the University of Nebraska, where he appeared in six games. During his stint with the Cornhuskers, he compiled 173 rushing yards and four receptions for 14 yards. Subsequently, Bell transferred to San Diego State University in 2019, where he enjoyed significant success over the following three seasons. During this period, he accumulated 1,735 rushing yards, 15 rushing touchdowns, and 119 receiving yards, further solidifying his reputation as a dynamic offensive threat.
