LAFC has completed the signing of center back Maxime Chanot from French second-division team AC Ajaccio, securing his services through the 2025 MLS season, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
At 34 years old, the Luxembourg international brings a wealth of experience to the Black & Gold squad, adding another seasoned center back option alongside Aaron Long, Jesús Murillo, and Eddie Segura.

Despite the club promoting center back Lorenzo Dellavalle from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate earlier in the offseason, the Italian youth international suffered an ACL tear during preseason camp.
LAFC’s co-president & general manager, John Thorrington, expressed his confidence in Chanot, stating, “Maxime is a highly accomplished defender and a leader both on and off the field. He is a proven winner in our league and will provide valuable experience to our backline as we continue to build our roster to compete for more trophies.”
Chanot brings extensive experience to LAFC, having previously played for New York City FC from 2016 to 2023, where he contributed to their MLS Cup victory in 2021. Departing the Cityzens last August, Chanot left a notable mark with 10 goals and 1 assist in 199 matches across all competitions, often wearing the captain’s armband.
During his stint with Ajaccio, Chanot appeared in 22 matches as they maintained a mid-table position in Ligue 2. His return to Europe follows previous spells with Belgian side KV Kortrijk, among others.
On the international stage, Chanot has represented Luxembourg, accumulating four goals in 68 caps.
As LAFC enters their third season under head coach Steve Cherundolo, having secured back-to-back MLS Cup appearances with a victory in 2022, Chanot joins a roster that includes French players Hugo Lloris and Dénis Bouanga. Additionally, reports suggest that legendary French striker Olivier Giroud will soon join the club from AC Milan.
