According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, Florida State forward Baba Miller is set to enter the transfer portal while also exploring opportunities in the NBA Draft. According to a source cited by ESPN’s Jonathan Givony, Florida State’s Baba Miller is set to enter the NCAA transfer portal while also exploring options in the NBA Draft. The 7-foot Spanish forward, who averaged 7.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks as a sophomore, faced challenges during his time in Tallahassee.
Upon arrival, he contended with shin splints, causing him to miss conditioning and practice sessions. Additionally, he received a suspension from the NCAA for the first half of the 2022-23 season due to receiving impermissible benefits, which included a plane ride and hotel stay funded by an agent years prior to his college basketball pursuit.
Despite repayment upon discovery of the infraction, the NCAA initially suspended him for the entire season, later reduced to half a season following FSU’s appeal. Upon his return, Miller encountered difficulties amidst a struggling team and even battled tonsillitis, further disrupting his playtime.
The 2023-24 season proved frustrating for both Miller and FSU supporters, as his evident talent was overshadowed by a lack of enjoyment on the court.
This could be attributed to various factors, but notably, a mismatch in play style emerged—Miller preferred a perimeter-focused approach while Florida State sought to utilize him akin to a defensive versatile player like Jonathan Isaac, capable of contributing both on the perimeter and inside.
Miller becomes the third Seminole this offseason to enter the transfer portal, following De’Ante Green and Primo Spears, with Green and Jeremiah Bembry from the 2022 recruiting class also making moves. Further roster changes are anticipated as FSU continues to adjust its lineup.
