Brisbane Captain Adam Reynolds Reveals Determination of 21-Year-Old Playmaker to Secure No. 7 Jersey Long-Term and Develop Leadership on Field

Brisbane’s captain, Adam Reynolds, has shared that young playmaker Ezra Mam is committed to securing the Broncos’ No. 7 jersey for the foreseeable future and evolving into a leadership figure on the field.

As Mam’s halves partner, Reynolds sees potential in the 21-year-old to eventually take charge of directing the team’s gameplay.

“He’s remarkably strong for his size, fast, and envisions himself as a long-term game manager — aiming to step into the No. 7 role once I retire,” Reynolds told Wide World of Sports’ Freddy and the Eighth.

Reynolds, whose contract extends until the conclusion of 2025 following a recent extension, anticipates that either Jock Madden or Mam will likely succeed him once he decides to retire.

Praising the raw talent, strength, and drive for self-improvement displayed by the 21-year-old, Reynolds likened Mam’s playing style to that of Reece Walsh, describing him as an instinctive player who exudes confidence.

“He’s cut from a similar cloth as Reece Walsh — someone who trusts their instincts,” Reynolds remarked. “He’s always seeking to enhance his understanding of the game, much like Walshy, constantly posing questions and striving for improvement.”

“Of course, we aim to capitalize on his natural instincts, getting him involved and into open space where he thrives. Undoubtedly, he’ll also develop his game management skills in due course.”

With reports suggesting that Walsh is poised to commit to the club long-term, Brisbane’s prospects for success could extend for years, especially with Mam set to lead the team in the future.

Mam solidified his position as the Broncos’ primary five-eighth last season, demonstrating his prowess by scoring 18 tries, matching the NRL’s record for the most tries in a season by a half.

His remarkable performance in the 2023 grand final, where he scored three tries in just 10 minutes, played a pivotal role in propelling the Broncos to a commanding 24-8 lead in the second half, further establishing him as the most outstanding No.6 in the league.

Last month, Mam committed his future to the Broncos by signing a contract extension until the end of 2029, following his inclusion in Queensland’s extended squad for the State of Origin series.
