BREAKING NEWS: MLS veteran Kei Kamara has joined LAFC.

At 39 years old, Kei Kamara is set to join LAFC as a free agent, aiming to close in on Landon Donovan’s second-place spot on the MLS scoring charts. Donovan’s illustrious MLS career ended with 145 goals, a record surpassed by Chris Wondolowski in 2018.

Kamara, who has scored 144 MLS goals since debuting in 2006, needs just two more in 2024 to surpass Donovan. LAFC will be Kamara’s 11th MLS club, following his stint with the Chicago Fire in 2023, where he scored five goals. The Athletic reports that Kamara has been training with LAFC and is expected to join the team this week.

Known for his journeyman career, Kamara set an MLS record in 2023 for debuting with the most clubs in the league (10) and now adds LAFC as his 11th, aiming to cement his legacy as one of the league’s greatest strikers.

LAFC is in need of immediate striking options ahead of Olivier Giroud’s anticipated arrival this summer. The 37-year-old AC Milan star has been in excellent form, scoring 14 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions. LAFC will look to Kamara to fill this gap until Giroud arrives.

Kamara is expected to finalize his deal with LAFC this week as the team prepares to face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, aiming for their second consecutive win in MLS play.
