Injured Essendon Defender Jordan Ridley Faces Further Delay in Recovery from Quad Injury
Essendon’s Jordan Ridley, sidelined with a quad injury sustained during a pre-season match against Geelong, has encountered a fresh setback in his rehabilitation. Initially diagnosed as a ‘low-grade strain,’ Ridley’s return was anticipated around Round 5 against the Bulldogs. However, according to reports by 7 News’ Mitch Cleary, Ridley’s comeback is now uncertain and unlikely to occur in the near future.
Cleary reported on Friday that Ridley experienced another setback in his quad recovery, dashing hopes of an imminent return. The specific timeframe for his return remains uncertain, but it is not expected to happen anytime soon.

This development adds to Essendon’s defensive challenges this season, with Zach Reid and Kaine Baldwin also contending with injuries. Additionally, midfielders Sam Durham and Dylan Shiel are at least a week away from returning, while Matt Guelfi and Tex Wanganeen could potentially rejoin the squad within the next two weeks.
Following their game against Port Adelaide, Essendon will face the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium next Friday night.
