South Georgia running back JP Powell Reaction to Florida State Offer
"An offer I wanted for a long time": South Georgia running back JP Powell
JP Powell, a promising athlete from Colquitt (Ga.) Miller County, received an offer from Florida State University during his visit to the campus for their second spring scrimmage. Powell clarified that the offer specifically invites him to join FSU as a running back. He has a prior acquaintance with FSU running backs coach David ‘YAC’ Johnson, who has visited Miller County on occasion. Powell shared insights from his conversation with Coach Johnson during his visit to Tallahassee.
“Coach YAC expressed confidence in my abilities after reviewing my film, emphasizing that stars and rankings hold no significance to him,” Powell stated. “I hold Coach YAC in high regard. He exhibits excellence both on and off the field, and I’ve heard nothing but praise for him. I have immense respect for him.”
During the visit, Powell and his mother also had the opportunity to interact with head coach Mike Norvell.
“It was an incredible experience. Coach Norvell’s high energy and enthusiasm were evident throughout the day, both in the facility and during practice. I was thoroughly impressed,” Powell remarked.
A highlight of the visit was witnessing FSU’s second spring scrimmage, where players like Lawrance Toafili and Jaylin Lucas showcased their skills. Powell was particularly impressed by the energy and camaraderie displayed by the team at Doak Campbell Stadium.
“The team exhibited remarkable energy and competitiveness on every play. What stood out to me the most was their unity and support for each other. It was truly inspiring,” Powell commented.
With the Seminoles extending an offer to the 5-foot-10, 185-pound athlete, Powell expressed his long-standing interest in FSU and his excitement about the offer.
“FSU is a dream offer for me, as I’ve been a fan since childhood. One of my mentors, Kez McCorvey, is a legend at FSU. It’s a surreal feeling,” Powell expressed.
Powell has already made plans to return to Tallahassee for the Spring Showcase on April 20.
“I’m looking forward to attending the Spring Showcase and further exploring what FSU has to offer,” Powell stated.
Currently holding a dozen offers, including ones from Boston College, Cincinnati, and Georgia Tech, Powell is considering his options. While he awaits official visits from Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt, no predictions have been made on the 247Sports.com Crystal Ball.
Not yet ranked by 247Sports.com or the 247Sports.com Composite Recruiting Rankings, Powell demonstrates versatility on the field, excelling in multiple positions for Miller County, including running back, wide receiver, defensive back, and special teams. In the previous season, he amassed impressive statistics, showcasing his prowess in various aspects of the game.
