The Boston Red Sox in talks about a secret trade in Major League Baseball.
Both the San Diego Padres and Boston Red Sox have significantly reduced their payroll this past offseason, with the Padres trading All-Star outfielder Juan Soto and the Red Sox dealing both starting pitcher Chris Sale and outfielder Alex Verdugo. Now, the two teams are discussing a potential trade deal.
According to Robert Murray of Fansided, the Red Sox and Padres have engaged in preliminary talks about a trade involving outfielder Jarren Duran. The Padres, having lost Trent Grisham and Soto, are in need of outfield depth. Duran has been the subject of MLB trade rumors for over a month, and discussions between the two teams may resume later in the spring.
Meanwhile, the Red Sox are actively considering dismantling parts of their roster in 2024. In addition to Sale and Verdugo, they are also considering trading closer Kenley Jansen. Jon Heyman of the NY Post reports that Boston is currently “fielding offers” for Jansen, with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, and Padres showing interest. The Dodgers, who were initially linked to Jansen, may no longer be pursuing him due to recent signings, but other teams remain interested.
