Vancouver Canucks Prospect Vilmer Alriksson Signs Amateur Try-Out With Abbotsford Canucks
On Sunday, the Abbotsford Canucks announced the signing of Vancouver Canucks prospect Vilmer Alriksson to an amateur try-out contract. Alriksson, who recently completed his rookie season in the OHL with the Guelph Storm, showcased his prowess with 33 points in 67 games. Originally drafted 107th overall by Vancouver in 2023, Alriksson is now eligible to participate in practices and games with Abbotsford for the remainder of the AHL season.
Standing at an imposing 6’6″ and weighing 230 pounds, the 19-year-old forward has yet to finalize his entry-level contract with the Canucks. However, his performance in Abbotsford over the coming weeks could pave the way for such a deal. Even if he secures an entry-level contract with Vancouver, the intention is for him to return to the OHL for the 2024-25 season.
Alriksson’s addition to Abbotsford’s roster brings the total number of Canucks prospects from the 2023 NHL Draft assigned to the AHL to three. Sawyer Mynio transitioned after the conclusion of his WHL season, while Ty Mueller embarked on his professional journey following the end of the University of Nebraska-Omaha’s NCAA tournament run. Although neither Mynio nor Mueller has made their AHL debuts yet, they may have the opportunity to do so before the conclusion of the regular season on Apr. 20.
