Michigan Wolverines vs Defensive Line Coach Legal Issues

The Michigan Wolverines’ defensive line coach has abruptly resigned following a recent arrest and subsequent suspension due to pending legal issues related to the arrest.

The university’s head coach, Sherrone Moore, announced the resignation, stating, “I just received notice that Greg Scruggs has resigned his position, effective immediately. I am unable to comment further as this is a university matter.”

Scruggs, who was recently hired by Michigan as the defensive line coach, had previously served on the staff of the Wisconsin Badgers in 2023 and worked as the defensive line coach for the New York Jets. He was hired by head coach Sherrone Moore’s staff on March 6 but was arrested for an OWI (operating while intoxicated) just 10 days later.

In response to Scruggs’ arrest, Moore stated, “Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we review the details of the incident.”

Scruggs’ resignation comes after holding the position of Michigan defensive line coach for a total of 16 days. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details have not been released at this time.
