Rabbitohs extend the contract of a 20-year-old player for an extra two years.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have prolonged the contract of promising utility player Jye Gray for an additional two years, securing his services until the conclusion of the 2026 season, announced today.
Aged 20, Gray possesses versatility, adept at playing in either the fullback or halves positions. He is poised to make his NRL debut this Saturday against the Sharks following a strong showing in the NSW Cup at the beginning of the 2024 season.
Hailing from the Gold Coast, Gray made his way to the Rabbitohs in 2023 after representing Queensland under 19s at the age of 18 in 2022. That same year, he was recognized as the QRL’s Mal Meninga Cup Player of the Year and Five-Eighth of the Year.
Having showcased his talent across both rugby league and rugby union at junior elite levels, including featuring in the first XV for the Southport School, Gray progressed through the ranks, featuring in the Rabbitohs’ SG Ball Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup squads in 2023 before earning a spot in the NSW Cup and NRL with the Rabbitohs’ top 30 squad this season. Gray earned the Rabbitohs’ Best Back Award while playing in the 2023 Jersey Flegg Cup team.
Gray’s development is a testament to the Rabbitohs’ elite player development program, which has also produced notable teammates such as Lachlan Ilias, Peter Mamouzelos, Tallis Duncan, Davvy Moale, Ben Lovett, and Tyrone Munro over the past four years.
