As the Phoenix Suns approach the most crucial stage of their regular season, the playoff picture hangs in the balance, with potential standings ranging from sixth to ninth place depending on the outcome of their final two games. Head coach Frank Vogel has finalized his playoff rotation, leaving certain players like Isaiah Thomas on the bench unless unforeseen circumstances arise. However, with Grayson Allen’s recent inconsistency in shooting, there may be opportunities for end-of-bench players to earn some minutes.
In a recent development, Coach Vogel has acknowledged that two players will be sidelined for certain playoff matchups. For those closely following the Suns’ season, identifying these two players shouldn’t be difficult. Both concerns center around the team’s center rotation, presenting a challenge for the Suns’ postseason aspirations. The affected players are starting center Jusuf Nurkic and his backup, Drew Eubanks.
Throughout the season, both Nurkic and Eubanks have demonstrated their value to the team. Nurkic, in particular, has surpassed expectations by maintaining good health and making significant contributions on the court, especially with his passing, rebounding, and willingness to do the dirty work. However, when matched against dominant centers like Rudy Gobert, Nikola Jokic, or Chet Holmgren, Nurkic’s limitations, particularly defensively, become apparent.
"There's going to be some opportunities where Nurk and Drew are not going to be able to play in certain games."

Unfortunately for the Suns, they are likely to face one of these formidable opponents in the first round of the playoffs, exposing Nurkic’s weaknesses. Similarly, Eubanks, despite his energy and athleticism, lacks the defensive prowess to contend with elite scorers, making him vulnerable to exploitation by opponents.
While Coach Vogel may opt for temporary solutions like playing Thaddeus Young in place of Eubanks, the team’s center rotation remains a concern. However, experimenting with Kevin Durant at center, with Young absorbing some of Eubanks’ minutes, could provide a viable solution. Nonetheless, Nurkic and Eubanks are likely to see limited action in the playoffs, with their usage determined by the coaching staff’s discretion rather than a regular occurrence.
