The influence of new running backs coach Tony Alford has been evident in recruiting efforts. Michigan has emerged as a contender for several running back prospects, including some hailing from Ohio.
Among them is four-star recruit Marquise Davis, originating from Cleveland, who holds the 169th spot in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. Standing at 6 feet tall and weighing 190 pounds, Davis is ranked as the 12th-best running back in his class and the 7th-best player in Ohio.
Davis had initially ruled out Michigan football from his considerations until Alford’s arrival. However, the Wolverines made it onto his recent shortlist, and Davis has visited Ann Arbor twice in the past two weeks, including a trip last weekend.
While Ohio State typically dominates in-state recruiting, Michigan managed to secure the top-ranked running back from Ohio in the 2024 class, Jordan Marshal. Additionally, the Wolverines are competing for the commitment of Bo Jackson, another four-star running back from Ohio.
Despite the stiff competition, Davis seems inclined towards committing to Michigan football. Following his recent visit to Ann Arbor, he expressed to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, “They offer everything that a running back would want.”
Michigan’s dedication to the running game, underlined by their high run frequency, is notable. Led by head coach Sherrone Moore, the Wolverines maintain a steadfast commitment to the running game, which could be a significant draw for any running back. Furthermore, the opportunity to play behind an elite offensive line adds to Michigan’s appeal.
