Drafted 62nd overall by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2022 NHL Draft, Hutson has emerged as one of the most promising young offensive defensemen. During his two seasons at Boston University, Hutson amassed 30 goals and 67 assists in 77 games. He was honored as the NCAA (East) Rookie of the Year and was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in both collegiate seasons. Moreover, Hutson played a pivotal role in securing a gold medal with the USA U20 team this past winter, contributing six assists in seven games. Despite standing at just 5-foot-10, Hutson’s exceptional stick handling and awareness have propelled his success at every level of hockey.
Joining a youthful defensive core alongside players like Arber Xhekaj, Justin Barron, and Kaiden Guhle, Hutson now has the opportunity to establish himself in the National Hockey League. The Canadiens have not seen an offensively gifted defenseman of Hutson’s caliber since the days of Shea Weber and P.K. Subban, igniting excitement among fans for what lies ahead.
