Oklahoma State’s Local Recruiting Strategy Pays Off: Three-Star Wide Receiver Commits from DFW
Mike Gundy, the head coach of Oklahoma State, emphasizes the importance of recruiting locally in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area. He equates traveling a short distance south on Interstate 35 to reach Dallas to recruiting “local” talents, as it is akin to traversing through Oklahoma.
Gundy’s strategy is exemplified by his recent success in securing another recruit from the DFW region for the 2025 class. Kameron Powell, a three-star wide receiver from McKinney, TX, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State, marking the program’s fifth commitment for the class.
This achievement comes following the program’s second significant weekend of official visits, demonstrating the effectiveness of Gundy and his staff, particularly Kasey Dunn. Despite competing offers from schools like Arkansas, Kansas, Arizona State, and Boston College, Powell ultimately chose Oklahoma State.
Powell’s decision was influenced by the strong sense of camaraderie and familial atmosphere he experienced during his visit to Stillwater. He noted the longstanding presence of the coaching staff, including Gundy, who himself played for Oklahoma State. Additionally, Powell was drawn to the program’s track record of developing playmakers, citing examples like Dez Bryant and Justin Blackmon.
Expressing confidence in his abilities as a playmaker, Powell is excited about contributing to Oklahoma State’s football program and aims to make a significant impact on the field.
With Powell’s commitment, Oklahoma State’s 2025 recruiting class ranks 42nd nationally according to 247 Sports, showcasing the program’s continued success in attracting top talent.
