Florida football recruitment update: Former highly-rated prospect Cormani McClain enters transfer portal

Once upon a time, it appeared highly likely that Cormani McClain would join Florida Football. The standout five-star cornerback from Lakeland was heavily favored to commit to Gainesville, but a complex series of events led him to Colorado instead.

Despite limited playing time in Boulder, McClain has now entered the transfer portal in search of a new team.

McClain’s recruitment journey was filled with twists and turns. In March 2022, there was a prediction from Josh Newberg of 247Sports that McClain would choose the Gators. He visited Florida unofficially in April and September of that year. However, in October, he surprised many by committing to Miami.

It seemed like McClain would honor his commitment to Miami until early national signing day. However, he delayed signing and eventually announced his decision to attend Colorado, stunning the college football world.

McClain’s time at Colorado was challenging, playing in nine games and starting in four. When asked about McClain’s readiness early in the season, Colorado coach Deion Sanders was candid, indicating that McClain was not yet prepared for significant playing time.

Despite his struggles in Boulder, McClain still has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He is expected to attract interest as a prospect with untapped potential, given his initial status as a highly regarded recruit.
