Kansas Jayhawks standout Hunter Dickinson is making moves to lure a Duke transfer portal entrant.

Amidst the ongoing NCAA transfer portal frenzy, the Kansas basketball team has already secured two transfers, with Coach Bill Self eyeing numerous other prospects in the open market. One potential target is former Duke Blue Devils guard Jeremy Roach, a graduate transfer entering his final collegiate season.

Roach has emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the transfer portal, garnering attention from various programs. Fellow portal entrant Hunter Dickinson attempted to recruit Roach to join the Kansas Jayhawks, though his method may not have been the most effective.

Dickinson’s recruitment effort stemmed from the shared background of both players, who hail from Virginia and entered college basketball during the 2020-21 NCAA COVID-19 season. Having competed against each other in high school, the two super seniors likely maintain a connection despite playing for different elite programs.

Roach, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound combo guard, boasts an impressive collegiate track record, having been a full-time starter at Duke for four consecutive years. In the 2023-24 season, he averaged 14.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.5 rebounds with notable shooting percentages. Despite declaring for the NBA Draft, Roach retained his collegiate eligibility by hiring an NCAA-certified agent.

However, it’s uncertain whether Coach Self would prioritize recruiting a guard like Roach, given the existing lineup dynamics and the need for wings and lengthy guards. While Roach’s talent is undeniable, it may be challenging for him to find significant playing time, particularly with Dajuan Harris in the mix.

Nevertheless, Dickinson’s active involvement in recruiting transfers to Kansas signals a positive outlook for the team. His recent social media post suggests his likely return to the Jayhawks for the 2024-25 season, adding to the anticipation surrounding the team’s prospects.
