Athlete on the brink of rescuing the Eagles and uplifting WA football

Nathan Brown has hailed Harley Reid, the 2023 No.1 draft pick, as not just the savior of West Coast but also as a beacon of hope for the entire state of WA.

Despite having played only six games, Reid single-handedly propelled the Eagles to a remarkable 37-point victory over Fremantle in the recent western derby. At just 19 years old, Reid amassed 19 disposals and kicked three goals in that game.

Drawing comparisons to Eagles and Blues legend Chris Judd, Reid’s impact has been nothing short of extraordinary, reminiscent of Judd’s influence during West Coast’s 2006 premiership campaign.

Brown emphasized that Reid’s influence has been unparalleled since Judd, highlighting his leadership qualities and immediate impact on the team and the broader football community.

Reid’s journey began in round four when he debuted against the Swans, marking the start of his meteoric rise. Despite the intense media scrutiny leading up to his draft selection, Reid has handled the pressure with maturity beyond his years.

Teammate Elliot Yeo praised Reid’s confidence and energy, noting his remarkable ability to elevate the team despite his limited experience. With the Eagles now sitting at 2-4 after six rounds, Reid’s emergence offers a beacon of hope for the team’s future.
